Abstract
This Decree-Law, consisting of 24 articles divided into four Chapters and one Annex, establishes the legal regime applicable to the protection and conservation of wild flora and fauna and natural habitats of the species (listed in the annex): a) The Convention on the Conservation of Wildlife and Natural Habitats in Europe, designated the Berne Convention, ratified by Decree No. 95/81 of 23 July; b) The Convention on the Conservation of Migrant Species Belonging to Wild Fauna, designated the Bonn Convention, ratified by Decree No. 103/80 of 11 October. This legal regime also covers the species listed in the appended annex. The objectives of this Decree-Law are: a) conserve wild flora and fauna and their natural habitats, manage and control the conservation status of species included in the annexes to the Berne or Bonn Conventions or in the appended annex, as well as regulate their exploitation, in particular of species and habitats whose conservation requires the cooperation of the different States; b) give particular emphasis on endangered or vulnerable species, including migratory species. These objectives are pursued taking into account ecological, economic, social, cultural and scientific requirements.
