Decree-Law No. 69/96 regulating poultry breeding activity (poultry and certain bird species reproduced in captivity or semi-captivity).

This Decree-Law is divided into 14 articles, regulating poultry and certain bird species' reproduction in captivity or semi-captivity. It defines the requirements, established by the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries for poultry breeding activities. Article 1 lays down a list of poultry species and other bird species to be exploited with a reproduction system for meat and egg production. It defines the use of each bird species ("grand parent stock" and "parent stock"); birds for meat production, birds for egg production and both. This Decree-Law also establishes the conditions required to obtain a poultry breeding permit (granted by the IPPAA Institute for the Protection of Agricultural Food Production). It also defines activities related to poultry and bird species production, specifying sanitary procedures. The remaining provisions related to external trade of living birds and eggs for hatching, sanctions and IPPAA competencies.
