Decree-Law No. 73/2009 approving the legal regime of the National Agricultural Reserve (RAN).

This Decree-Law, consisting of 10 chapters and 2 Annexes, approves the legal regime of the National Agricultural Reserve (RAN). It establishes composition, duties and responsibilities of RAN, which in agro-climatic, geomorphological and pedological terms are more adequate for farming activity. RAN establishes a set of constraints to non-agricultural land use, taking into account the objectives of this regime in the different types of land. Objective of RAN are: to protect the soil resource, to support the development of agriculture; to contribute to the sustainable development of agriculture; to promote the competitiveness of rural areas and contribute to regional planning; to contribute to the preservation of natural resources; to ensure that the current generation respects the values to preserve, allowing for diversity and sustainability features to future generations; to contribute to ecological coherence of the Fundamental Nature Conservation Network, etc.
