Order No. 166/2017 establishing the implementation of support 7.8.4, 'Conservation and improvement of plant genetic resources', as part of Action No. 7.8, 'Genetic resources', of measure 7, 'Agriculture and natural resources', Area 3, 'Environment, resource efficiency and climate', of the Mainland Rural Development Programme (PDR 2020).

This Order, consisting of 20 articles divided into three Chapters and five Annexes, establishes the scheme for the implementation of support No 7.8.4 'Conservation and improvement of plant genetic resources', as part of Action No. 7.8 'Genetic resources', of measure 7 'Agriculture and Natural resources', inserted in area 3, 'Environment, resource use efficiency and climate', of the Mainland's Rural Development Programme (PDR 2020). The support provided for shall pursue the following objectives: a) Promote and strengthen the ex-situ long-term conservation of the genetic diversity of crop plants and their wild relatives of value to agriculture and food; b) Promote and strengthen the in-situ conservation of agro-diversity and wild relatives of cultivated species; c) Promote the creation of new genetic combinations with characteristics adapted to social, economic and social conditions; d) Promote the use of plant genetic resources in a sustainable manner; e) Promote and value products whose origin is based on Portuguese plant genetic resources. Chapter II specifies the requirements to be satisfied to benefit from Support No. 7.8.4 'Conservation and improvement of plant genetic resources'. Chapter III lays down procedural matters. Annexes list actions that integrate the programmes for conservation and/or genetic improvement of plants; plant varieties and type of support.
