Regional Legislative Decree No. 19/96/A establishing the Fund for Financial Compensation of Fishermen in the Azores (FUNCOOP).

A Fund for financial compensation of fishermen (FUNCOOP) is created in the Azores. Its purpose is to guarantee financial compensation to fishermen in the region. The Fund shall guarantee the continuity of artisanal fishing activity incomes, in spite of atmospheric conditions. FUNCOOP's competence is to establish the impossibility of operation of fishing vessels due to adverse atmospheric conditions; financial compensation schemes; etc. The activity of the aforementioned entity is subject to Regional Government control.
