Abstract
The National Action Program to combat land degradation is a national policy with a multi-sectoral approach. This policy outlines Palau’s commitment to achieving sustainable development by prioritizing efficient land management and responsible use of natural resources to support balanced social progress. It emphasizes the full development of management, scientific, and technological capacities, ensuring coordinated efforts across all sectors and levels. Key focus areas include: (i) establishing a land use plan that harmonizes forest resource utilization with ecological preservation; (ii) implementing inclusive land management strategies that safeguard the land’s biological productivity and its ecological and socioeconomic value for current and future generations; (iii) restoring degraded lands to reclaim their essential role in human well-being; (iv) enhancing watershed management to secure reliable water supplies, particularly during droughts; and (v) strengthening technical and institutional capacities to effectively monitor and address land degradation.
