Abstract
This Strategy aims to educate tourists and guests, protect the country and empower the population to benefit from tourism in more meaningful ways according to sustainable development principles. Therefore, the Strategy includes measures to support micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), through financing tools needed to launch and grow resilient tourism businesses. The vision aims at achieving a population pride and respectful of its own home country; welcoming visitors who respect environment and culture and contribute to the nation’s sustainable future; receiving international community's recognition as the world’s leading sustainable tourism destination. The Strategy is inspired by the following guiding principles: inclusive and socially responsible tourism; tourism environmentally sustainable; preservation of Palauan cultural heritage. The Strategy defines the following goals: attracting visitors at a sustainable pace and level; growing the high-spend, low-impact traveler segment; increasing tourism’s economic contribution to Palau; improving Palauan-owned tourism-related businesses; increasing Palauan employment in tourism; growing community support for tourism. The Strategy develops four key objectives with related actions and outcome-level objectives: destination management structures and systems; tourism supply, strengthening products, people, access, infrastructure; supporting conditions for sustainable tourism development; destination marketing and distribution.
