Abstract
This Act merges the Palau Water and Sewer Corporation, created by RPPL No. 8-31, with the Palau Public Utilities Corporation, which was created by RPPL No. 4-13, and provides anew with respect to powers, functions, organization and administration of the Palau Public Utilities Corporation (PPUC). The PPUC shall be responsible for the water and waste water operations of the Republic, which shall include the powers and responsibilities:(a) to acquire, store, treat, distribute, market, and otherwise supply water for any purpose; (b) to collect, store, treat, market, and dispose of wastewater; (c) to undertake, maintain, and operate any works, system, facilities, apparatus or equipment required for any of these purposes. Other functions of the PPUC are specified by this Act and include: adopting water and waste water Regulations to set water and waste water standards for the water and waste water system, taking into account the potential environmental impact involved in setting such Regulations and exercising the powers provided by the Underground Utility Damage Prevention Act as operator of the water and waste water systems, and exercising the rights and powers vested in the Director of Public Works under the Sewer Use Act; functions in the energy generation and distribution sector.
