Environment Minister Decision No. 36 of 2011 amending some provisions of Law No. 2 of 1985 on the Exploitation and Protection of Living Aquatic Resources in Qatar and its Executive Regulations No. 4 of 1983.

Abstract
This Decision consisting of 5 articles aims at protecting the marine environment. It establishes that: the fishermen should hold a valid licence and the licence for the boat should be available on board; the owner of the boat should be a Qatari citizen and a licensed Qatari fisherman should be on board while fishing; boats that are not completely owned by Qatari citizen are not allowed to catch fish in Qatari waters; the licence can be renewed within a certain period time after its expiry; the number of crew members written on the license cannot change; fishing boats and vehicles transporting fish to the central market should be equipped with refrigerators or temperature resistant boxes in line with the Qatari standards; the boxes should be made of hygienic rust resistance material which can be cleaned and decontaminated easily; the transporting vehicles should be cleaned and decontaminated on a daily basis and fulfil the hygienic conditions approved by the authorities concerned; fish traps (gargoor) has to be numbered or marked in some way; the closure of fish traps must be of metal and such that the fish can get out if the traps were lost at sea; it is forbidden to place the fish directly on the floor of the transport vehicle and it is indicated as it should be placed and cooled with ice; and are specified fees for the service by the competent department.
