Decision no. 1,403 of 19 November 2007 on the restoration of areas where soil, subsoil and terrestrial ecosystems have been affected.

This Decision establishes the legal framework for carrying out activities of cleaning, remediation and/or ecological reconstruction of areas where the soil, subsoil and terrestrial ecosystems have been affected or damaged.
This Decision applies to: a) pollution of the geological environment, produced by activities with significant impact, which present a real or potential risk for human health and the environment; b) lands where terrestrial ecosystems have been affected.
Sites of radioactive contamination and those contaminated with genetically modified organisms are not the subject of this Decision. The central national public authority for environmental protection and sustainable development, through their subordinated units, establishes the need for measures to restore areas where the geological environment and terrestrial ecosystems have been affected. Any person, natural or legal, affected or likely to be affected by a pollution of the geological environment has the right to be informed and to address the competent authority for environmental protection to take measures to prevent or restore the geological environment.
