Abstract
This decision regulates the conditions relating to the universal iodization of salt intended for human consumption, animal feed and use in the food industry, in order to prevent iodine deficiency disorders. In Romania, only iodized salt is used in human nutrition. The salt iodization method, quality and safety, iodine concentration, control methods applied in the iodization process and preservation until consumption/use of the iodine concentration established by this decision must meet all the conditions provided for by the regulations in force. The production processes - purification, recrystallization, iodization, as well as the activities of transportation, storage, and marketing of salt must be carried out in strict compliance with the hygiene rules in force regarding food safety, avoiding any risk of contamination. Food safety rules also apply to imported iodized salt. The labeling of iodized salt is done in accordance with the legal provisions in force. The name under which the product is sold is "Iodized salt".
