Joint Regulation of the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, National Sanitary, Veterinary and Food Safety Authority and National Authority for Consumer Protection validating the Regulation on the organization and operation of the National Commission for Novel Food.

National Commission for Novel Food at its meetings, during the evaluation of consultation requests of economic operators in the food sector, people with expertise in the relevant field may be invited, specialists/experts from institutions other than those to which the Commission members belong, such as: universities, research institutes, authorities with experience in the field of food hygiene, nutrition, pharmacology, toxicology, food toxicology, food chemistry, botany, biochemistry, public health, food safety and other related fields related to food products, in order to analyze/express scientific interpretation of some data presented in the consultation requests of food sector operators. The duties of the Commission are as follows: (a) to verify the validity of the consultation request of an economic operator in the food sector, to establish whether or not a food is included in the scope of the Regulation; (b) to evaluate the valid consultation request of an economic operator in the food sector, to establish whether or not a food is included in the scope of the Regulation; (c) to request the economic operator in the food sector, if necessary, additional documents to clarify the aspects under discussion; and (d) to conclude on to the new food status of a food product.
