Abstract
This National Integrated Energy and Climate Change Plan for 2025-2030 envisages that the proposed policies and measures are designed to align with the established national targets and objectives, and they will also contribute to achieving EU objectives. Romania is committed to substantially increasing the share of renewable energy sources (RES) in its energy mix. This commitment covers various RES, including wind and solar energy, biomass and hydropower. The plan foresees a spectacular increase in wind and solar energy production capacities, thus capitalizing on the country's natural resources to produce clean electricity.
Romania aims to implement the following specific objectives and actions that have the potential to reduce the level of energy poverty by 2030: Objective 1: Ensure energy consumers' access to diversified, sustainable and affordable energy sources for lighting, heating and cooling; Objective 2: Specific measures to reduce energy poverty and protect vulnerable consumers; Objective 3: Establish a governance system for energy poverty issues to assess, monitor and periodically update the objectives of the field.
The Plan presents a series of initiatives aimed at increasing energy efficiency in all economic sectors. These measures include modernizing buildings to improve energy performance and modernizing industrial processes to minimize energy consumption. The ultimate goal is to optimize energy consumption, reduce the volume of waste generated, and lower energy costs in both commercial and residential areas.
Romania is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in multiple sectors of its economy, including industry, transport and residential buildings. Efforts are focused on adopting cleaner technologies and practices, thus mitigating the impact of economic activities on the environment.
Romania considers domestic energy production as the most important objective for ensuring national energy security. Regarding electricity production, Romania aims to maintain its diversified energy mix, while reducing GHG emissions through the sustained increase of RES production capacities.
