Abstract
These Methodological Rules set forth microclimate standards, in order to ensure the minimum welfare status of pigs in commercial holdings in accordance with parameters contained in the Annex. In commercial pig holdings the movement of air, dust level, temperature, relative humidity and the gas concentration must be maintained in accordance with the provisions of these Methodological Rules, ensuring the thermal comfort of pigs and good physiological conditions thereof. In pig holdings, the volume of circulating air must be sufficient and appropriate to the age of the pigs and the season (winter/summer). All animals must have access to a source of water constantly provided in appropriate quantities for all categories of pigs. Water and/or food must not contain any substance that could cause unnecessary suffering, with the exception of substances administered for therapeutic, prophylactic or treatment purposes. All pigs must be fed at least once a day.
