Order no. 237 on the authorization of genetically modified plants.

This Order establish official procedures for the control over the genetically modified crops and their direct deriving production, in order to authorize their use; in order to ensure the traceability and correct labelling of genetically modified products in accordance with the national and Community legislation in force in that particular field.
As defined by this text, on the territory of the Republic of Romania, only genetically modified plants previously authorized can be released into the environment and/or on the market.
Some specific provisions of this Order are listed here as follows: the cultivation of genetically modified plants is prohibited in the immediate vicinity of certified/conversion period for organic farming activities; the cultivation of genetically modified plants is strictly prohibited within the perimeter of legally protected natural protected areas; the genetically modified plants are cultivated only by cultivators authorized by official state authorities, as listed in the text.
