Abstract
This Regulation sets the rules and necessary procedures as regards the mandatory controls to be performed on seeds/planting material that is produced on the territory of Romania and that is officially intended to be marketed on the national territory and/or in other countries members of the European Union.
These provisions will not apply to seeds produced on the territory of Romania and intended for non EU member countries.
The controls and analysis object of this Regulation are established in order to verify the quality and structure of seeds of genetically unmodified varieties which may be contaminated with genetically modified organisms (test also defining the acceptance of the effective grade of possible GMO contamination; in accordance with issues from the Emergency Ordinance No. 43 on the deliberate release into the environment of genetically modified organisms).
This text is based on the provisions contained in the following documents: Regulation (EC) No. No 1.830/2003 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 22 September 2003 concerning the traceability and labelling of genetically modified organisms and the traceability of food and feed products produced obtained from genetically modified organisms and amending Directive 2001/18/EC; Directive 2001/18/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 12 March 2001 on the deliberate release into the environment of genetically modified organisms and repealing Council Directive 90/220/EEC.
