Abstract
Romania's Development Strategy in the next 20 years is a multi-sectoral nationwide policy document establishing long-term development directions for medium and long periods to be implemented through 11 interdisciplinary projects, including natural resources management, promotion of energy security and energy efficiency, food security, conservation (including biodiversity conservation) of the national natural heritage and counteracting climate change through compliance with international protocols on reducing emissions and air pollution control. Sustainable development involves ensuring to the future generations the opportunity to enjoy the country's natural resources - they cannot be exhausted by a single generation.
In agricultural sector major focus shall be put on agroecology, ecofriendly processes and organic production. In forestry sector major focus shall be put on intensification of afforestation and ecological reconstruction of forests, measures for the prevention of illegal deforestation, increasing forest-covered areas and increasing the capacity of CO2 absorption (capture) by forests. The trend in the development of energy projects will be represented by shore (wind farms, photovoltaic), respectively offshore, smart-grid solutions and smart-metering, resource and energy storage solutions and capitalization of the potential of conventional sources with low environmental impact. Energy security shall be intended an essential part of a state's national security, consisting of the set of intended political, economic, legal and institutional measures aimed at ensuring a continuous and balanced supply, from various sources and at reasonable prices, with energy resources, in order to cover needs and capitalization of any surplus resources, in transparent and competitive conditions, as well as measures to develop new energy resources, to ensure energy security infrastructure while maintaining ecological balance and energy efficiency, stability and cooperation in the spirit of international commitments.
