Abstract
This Law regulates the conditions and manner for the efficient use of energy in the production, transmission, distribution and consumption on the territory of the Republic of Serbia.
This Law further defines the concrete energy management system; minimum energy efficiency requirements in terms of production, transmission and distribution of electricity and heat, including the natural gas delivery; funding, incentives and other measures as well as other issues of importance to the rights and obligations of natural and legal persons in connection with the efficient use of energy.
Efficient use of energy is established in order to achieve the following objectives: increasing the security of energy supply and its efficient use; increase the competitiveness of the economy; reducing the negative impact of the energy sector on the environment; encouraging responsible behavior towards energy, based on implementation of energy efficiency policies and measures of energy efficiency in energy generation/production, transmission, distribution and consumption.
The Law is divided into IX Chapters and 96 articles, including offences and related penalties.

Entry into force notes
This Law enters into force eight days after its publication in the "Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia", except for the provisions of article 43, paragraph 1, point. 1) and 3) and articles 57, 58, 59, 60, 61 and 62 which shall apply from 1 January 2014.
