Abstract
This Regulation prescribes the maximum permitted quantities of hazardous and harmful substances in soil and in irrigation water.
This kind of presence of hazardous substances can damage or change the production capacity (fertility) of agricultural land and the quality of irrigation water. Possible pollution sources are here identified as discharges from factories or industries, landfills, improper use of mineral fertilizers and plant protection products.
Dangerous substances are: cadmium, lead, mercury, arsenic, chromium, nickel and fluorine, and harmful substances are: copper, zinc and boron; meanwhile plant protection products used for weed control are based on triazine preparations (atrazine and simazine).
The maximum permitted quantities of hazardous and harmful substances are laid down in articles 2 and 3.
