Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Lithuania on cooperation in the sphere of environmental protection.

The Parties have agreed to cooperate with a view of improving state of environment and ecological safety, in particular in the Baltic sea basin and transboundary waterbodies. Cooperation shall be carried out in the following spheres: (a) industrial ecology and resource saving technology; (c) ecological monitoring and environmental impact assessment; (d) environmental audit; (e) protection of transboundary surface water and groundwater; (f) protection of subsoil and subsoil management; (g) protection and restoration of landscapes and ecosystems; (h) conservation of forests, afforestation and reforestation; (i) expansion of protected areas, protection of rare and endangered flora and fauna species; (j) recycling of waste; (k) environmental protection in the process of transboundary movement of hazardous waste; (l) reduction of transboundary flows of pollutants; and (m) ecological education. Cooperation shall be carried out in the following forms: (a) joint programs and projects; (b) meetings, conferences, symposia, seminars and consultations; (c) publication of joint reports, articles and monographs; (d) exchange of experts and delegations; (e) exchange of documentation and information; and (f) setting joint working groups.
