Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Latvian Republic on cooperation in the sphere of environmental protection.

The scope of this Agreement shall be cooperation aimed at the improvement of natural environment of both the Parties and protection of environment of the basin of the Baltic Sea. The cooperation shall be carried out in the following fields: (a) climate change; (b) conservation of biological diversity and protection of marine area; (c) protection of the atmospheric air, soil, surface- and groundwater; (d) assessment of transboundary pollution, prevention and mitigation of the consequences thereof; (e) promotion and utilization of environmental information systems; (f) environmental monitoring; and (g) setting up and promotion of transboundary protected areas. Cooperation shall be performed in the following forms: (a) joint programs; (b) joint conferences, symposia, seminars and consultations; and (c) exchange of information, scientists and experts.
