Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Cuba on cooperation in the field of the use of atomic energy.

The Parties shall develop cooperation in the field of the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes in accordance with the needs and priorities of the national nuclear programs of the Parties. Cooperation is carried out in accordance with the provisions of this Agreement and the laws of each of the Parties. The Parties shall cooperate in the following areas: (a) implementation of fundamental and applied research in the field of the use of atomic energy for peaceful purposes; (b) handling of radioactive waste, with the exception of import thereof into the territory of the states of the Parties, as well as the treatment of spent closed sources of ionizing radiation; (c) ensuring nuclear and radiation safety, responding to emergencies; (d) regulation of nuclear and radiation safety, supervision of physical protection of nuclear facilities; (e) production of radioisotopes and their application in industry, medicine, agriculture, protection and exploration of environment; (f) training of specialists in the field of nuclear energy; and (g) and nuclear medicine and radiation technology.
