Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Armenia on cooperation in the field of nuclear safety.

The Parties shall cooperate with a view to: (a) improvement of the nuclear safety infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia in connection with the operation of the Armenian nuclear power plant and the construction of new power units; (b) achievement of a stable and high level of nuclear safety at nuclear facilities of the Republic of Armenia; and (c) creation and maintenance of effective means of protection against potential radiation hazards at nuclear power facilities of the Republic of Armenia. In order to implement this Agreement, the Parties shall cooperate in the following areas: (a) improvement of the nuclear safety infrastructure, including in the handling of spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste; (b) development of innovative nuclear power plants with intrinsic safety properties (self-defense); and (c) improving the systems for regulating the nuclear safety of the Parties.
