Abstract
The purpose of Land Legislation of the RSFSR is to regulate land relations with the object of providing for the rational use and protection of land, setting up conditions for equal development of various forms of economic activity on land, re-production of soil fertility, conservation and improvement of environment and safeguarding of the rights of landownership of citizens, enterprises, institutions and organizations. The document consists of XV Sections that contain 127 Articles. Sections I, III, IV are sub-divided into Chapters. Section I contains 8 Chapters. Chapter 1 lays down the general provisions. Chapter 4 regards expropriation, allotment and concession into private property and in lease of the plots of land. Chapter 5 establishes the modalities of expropriation and allotment of the plots of land. Chapter 6 deals with cessation of the rights on land. Chapter 7 deals with the use of land for prospecting purpose. Chapter 8 concerns land tax, rent and royalties for the purchase of land. Section II determines the rights and the duties of the landowners, landlords, leaseholders and land tenants, protection and safeguard of their rights. Section III regards agricultural land. Chapter 9 lays down the general provisions. Chapter 10 regards peasants' (farmers') land. Chapter 11 regards plots of land destined for subsidiary smallholding, gardening, stockbreeding, truck farming, haymaking and grazing. Chapter 12 regards collective farms' land, agricultural cooperatives' land, state farms' land and land belonging to other agricultural enterprises, institutions and organizations. Section IV regards populated areas land. Chapter 13 regards urban land, settlement land and rural settlements' land. Section V regards land belonging to industrial enterprises, transport, communications, broadcasting, television, information and space installations, defence installations and land destined for other purposes. Section VI concerns land destined for environmental protection, protected are, recreational, historical and cultural heritage. Section VII regards forestland, water land and stock of land. Section VIII establishes the modalities of indemnification of the landowners, landlords, leaseholders and land tenants for agricultural agro-forestry losses. Section IX deals with land protection. Section X regards control over the use and protection of land. Section XI regards state land cadastre. Section XII regards land survey. Section XIII regards dispute settlement. Section XIV establishes liability for the infringement of land legislation. Section XV regards international agreements.

The abbreviation RSFSR stands for Russian Soviet Federal Socialist Republic. Russian Federation is the legal successor of the RSFSR. Chapters 2-3 have been repealed by the Presidential Decree No. 2287 of 1993.
