Abstract
The elimination of pest outbreaks in forests includes the following measures: (a) conducting surveys of pest outbreaks; (b) destruction or suppression of pest populations, including the use of chemicals; (c) felling of forest stands in order to regulate the species and age composition of forest stands infested with pests. Pest outbreak eradication measures are carried out in forest stands, open forest stands, and young stands located in forest quarters, forest taxation units, or parts thereof, in order to preserve their biological stability, reduce damage to their target functions from possible damage, and prevent the spread of pests. Eradication measures are planned based on the existing threat of damage to forest stands, taking into account the limitations of their implementation, as well as when the predicted damage to forests and natural objects located within them exceeds the costs of pest outbreak eradication measures. Pest outbreak surveys are conducted to determine the extent of pest outbreaks, including those requiring control measures, and to confirm the need for eradication measures. Pest census involves counting the number of pest species at census points and units (model trees, branches, shrubs, pallets, litter plots, exposed mineral layers, growth points, 100 grams of needles or foliage, and census plots on the trunk), obtaining qualitative and quantitative characteristics of pest populations, and analyzing the resulting information. Procedure to destroy or suppress pest populations is carried out using the following methods: (a) treatment of forest stands with pesticides by ground and/or aerial means; (b) mechanical collection and destruction of egg clutches, pest nests, and shoots or fruits infested by pests; (c) oiling and coating of egg clutches; (d) use of pheromone, light, and mechanical traps; (e) sexual disorientation of males; (f) cutting off infested shoots (branches); (g) local application of non-toxic preparations and forest protection products; (h) release of entomophages; (i) application of trapping adhesive belts; (j) laying out trap heaps from logging debris; (k) laying out trap trees and their subsequent removal; (l) trunk injection; (m) biological methods of destruction or suppression of pest populations; and (n) the use of aerosols or substances that form airtight films on the surface of egg clutches.
