Fortified Milled Maize (corn) Products-Specification (Rwanda Standard 768:2012).

This East African standard sets out the requirements and methods for sampling and testing fortified milled maize products, such as maize meal and maize flour, derived from common maize grains intended for human consumption. The products must meet quality criteria including being free from foreign matter, rancidity, and objectionable odors, and must have natural maize color. Fortificants used must be stable compounds and meet established specifications. The products should be free from pathogenic microorganisms and comply with microbiological, heavy metal, pesticide residue, and mycotoxin limits as outlined by the Codex Alimentarius Commission. Packaging must be clean, food-safe, and capable of preserving the product’s quality. Proper labeling is required, including the product's name and the word "Fortified" before it. Fortified milled maize products must display micronutrient information on the label and any health or nutrition claims must comply with relevant guidelines.
