Abstract
This Act lays down provisions on the establishment, members and functions of the Solomon Islands Electricity Authority and its duty to supply electricity; financial matters and investment of funds; transfer of the Government undertakings to the Authority; procedures of licensing; the powers of the Authority or licensee, such as to inspect and to enter on and examine land; offences and proceedings; compensation for damage; appointment and powers of inspectors; and periodical inspections of installations. Section 13 sets out the general functions of the Authority, including but not limited to: securing the supply of electricity at reasonable prices; promoting and encouraging the generation of electricity with a view to the economic development of Solomon Islands; ensuring standards of safety, efficiency and economy in respect of the production, transmission, distribution and use of electricity.
