Abstract
The National Gender Equality and Women’s Development Policy lays down strategies to ensure gender equality in all areas of life and at all levels. The timeframe of this policy is 5 years between 2016 and 2020. The purpose of this policy is to enable both women and men fully enjoy their right to participate and access equal opportunities, and achieve equal development outcomes in order to fulfil their needs and support their well-being. Moreover, this policy provides a comprehensive framework for the government, civil society and development partners for accelerating gender equality and the well-being of women in the Solomon Islands. This policy addresses the need to increase women's economic status by facilitating their access to credits and markets, with a special emphasis on rural women and that specific targeted agricultural support for rural women, as well as improving their skills and providing education.
