Abstract
The National Strategy on Aquatic Biosecurity for the Solomon Islands 2018–2023 establishes a comprehensive policy framework to safeguard aquatic resources and support the sustainable development of the aquaculture sector through strengthened biosecurity measures. It identifies key priorities including the development and enforcement of national and international biosecurity standards for imports and exports, the establishment of effective regulatory and institutional arrangements, improved monitoring and surveillance systems, and enhanced coordination among stakeholders. The strategy further emphasizes risk management, capacity building, and data collection to prevent the introduction and spread of aquatic pests, diseases, and invasive species that may threaten ecosystems, livelihoods, and trade. Its overarching goal is to ensure a robust and responsive aquatic biosecurity system that protects the health and integrity of Solomon Islands’ aquatic ecosystems while enabling sustainable aquaculture and fisheries development in accordance with national and international standards.
