Abstract
This Act establishes the Solomon Islands Maritime Authority. The specific objects of this act are to: a) establish the Solomon Islands Maritime Authority as a financially self-sufficient organisation with sufficient resources to carry out its functions; b) facilitate the implementation of international and regional maritime agreements and; c) facilitate the implementation of applicable maritime laws.
This Act includes nine parts: (i) preliminary matters; (ii) establishment and administrative matters; (iii) maritime conventions and agreements; (iv) franchise shipping schemes; (v) emergency and disaster management; (vi) monitoring and investigations; (vii) miscellaneous matters; (viii) transitional matters; (ix) repeals and consequential amendments.

Entry into force notes
Parts 1, 2, 7 and 8 of this Act commence on the date of assent (7 September 2018); and the remaining provisions of the Act commence on the day or days appointed by the Minister by notice in the Gazette.
