Abstract
The Solomon Islands National Strategy for the Management of Inshore Fisheries and Marine Resources establishes a policy framework for the period of 2010–2012 to ensure the sustainable management and utilization of inshore fisheries resources, which are critical to the livelihoods, food security, and economic well-being of the predominantly rural population. The strategy identifies key challenges, including population growth, overfishing, environmental degradation, and climate change, and emphasizes the need to maintain and restore the productivity of coastal fisheries through improved governance, community-based management, and alignment with national and international obligations. It adopts a multi-pillar approach to strengthen institutional capacity, promote sustainable practices, and safeguard the ecological integrity of marine resources while supporting socio-economic development. The overarching goal of the strategy is to achieve sustainable and secure inshore fisheries and aquatic resources, thereby ensuring long-term resource availability and resilience for present and future generations.
