Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative – Seychelles Infant Feeding Policy 2010.

This policy establishes a national framework for infant feeding within maternity and child health services, aligned with the UNICEF/WHO Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative. It aims to improve infant health by promoting optimal feeding, addressing malnutrition and low exclusive breastfeeding rates, and ensuring informed parental choice, staff training, and implementation of the BFHI Ten Steps.
It mandates written policies, standardized training, antenatal counselling, early skin-to-skin contact, rooming-in, and exclusive breastfeeding for six months. It ensures compliance with the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes, regular audits, data collection, safe formula guidance where needed, and strengthened community breastfeeding support.
