Abstract
These Regulations are framed pursuant to section 77 of the Fisheries Act, 2014. It consists of five parts: I. Preliminary; II. Aquaculture Development Zones; III. Licenses; IV. General Obligations and Conditions; and V. Enforcement and Offences.
Part I contains the short title, commencement, interpretation and scope of application. It also establishes the Aquaculture Regulatory Committee to advise the Minister on matters relating to aquaculture, review applications for licenses and other functions as mentioned therein. Part II provides for designation of an area of public land or sea as Aquaculture Development Zone (Zone) for exclusive use by aquaculture sector. It also lays down the procedure to be followed before designation can be made and contains provisions for administration of such Zones. Part III requires obtaining a license to engage in aquaculture and provides for the procedure and conditions to obtain such a license. Part IV contains general duties of licensees, adoption of Aquaculture standards by the Authority, provisions relating to fish health and welfare, food safety and quality. Part V contains provisions relating to enforcement and penalties for offences committed under the Act.
