Abstract
The Mahé Plateau trap and line fishery co-management plan (Plan) is prepared pursuant to section 5(7) of the Fisheries Act, 2014 of Seychelles. The Plan documents the management plan for the Mahé plateau artisanal trap and line fishery and includes elements such as the objectives; issues facing the fishery; implementation of the plan; management strategies and regulations; performance measurement system; Monitoring, Control and Surveillance; and a review process. The Plan follows the principles of the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM) and allows for a full co-management framework to be adopted. The scope of the Plan includes fishing activities that involve licensed artisanal fishers as well as sport and recreational fishers. The implementation of the Plan is the responsibility of the Ministry for Fisheries and Agriculture through its executive arm, the Seychelles Fishing Authority. An Implementation Committee is formed as a representative body of key stakeholders in the co-managed fishery to oversee the implementation and future review of the Plan.
