Abstract
This Act amends the Merchant Shipping Act (principal Act). In section 3 of the principal Act, various definitions are amended, added or repealed. Some of the new definitions added include Appeal, Authority, Examiner, Inspector, Registrar, Ship, STCW Convention, Surveyor and Tonnage Convention. The words seaman and seamen are replaced by the words Seafarer and Seafarers respectively, throughout the Act. Sections 5 and 7 are substituted. Sections 8, 9,10 and 11, 11A, 11B and 11C are repealed. Further, various sections are amended, which include section 16, 17, 19, 20, 22, 26, 29, 50, 52, 55, 62, 81, 83, 84, 85, 87, 88, 89, 90, 92, 93, 94, 95, 98, 99, 101, 102, 105, 109, 110, 116, 117, 119, 120, 121, 124, 125, 126, 129, 131, 134, 143, 146, 150, 151, 157, 158, 159, 160, 162, 170, 171, 172, 174, 175, 204, 205, 211, 227, 236, 242 and 245. The second schedule to the principal Act is substituted.
