Abstract
This Act makes provision for the control of activities involving ionizing radiation. This Act shall apply to all practices involving the peaceful use of nuclear material and ionizing radiation conducted in the territory or exclusive economic zone of Seychelles including, not limited to production, possession, use, import, export, transport, transfer, handling and management or any other practices identified by the Minister responsible for employment, which shall act as Competent Authority. The Act sets out functions the Competent Authority and provides with respect to licensing of activities involving radiation, including the management of radioactive waste. In case of persistent or serious non-compliance with provisions of this Act, regulations made thereunder, the conditions of the licence, or in case of a release of radioactive waste into the environment, the Competent Authority may revoke the licence, and require the licensee to remedy immediately any unsafe condition. One Part of the Act is dedicated to the import and export of radioactive waste. The Competent Authority shall, for ensuring the safe and secure management of radioactive waste, establish requirements and procedures as specified.
