Abstract
This Act consisting of 87 articles divided in XII Capthers aims at establishing the principle of recognizing all children in Sudan the right to proper upbringing, from all sides, within the framework of freedom, human dignity and spiritual and social values, and in a healthy environment.
As regards nutrition, the Act affirms (i) the right to breast-feeding for the period of full two years; (ii) the right for a working mother tohave granted a maternity leave for such period; and (iii) the prohibition of addition of substances inconsistent with specifications to child food (i.e. colored or preservative substances, food additives, necessary registrazion before advertisement of the foods and preparations specified for nutrition of Children, in particular the mother milk substitutes). The Act is concerned with the protection of the child also from the point of view of (i) health (right to primary health care, immunization, health card, protection against infectious diseases, psychological diseases); (ii) social care (nurseries, centres for Children development, vagrancy, Substitute Care); (iii) education (right to general education, satisfaction of cultural needs); (iv) labor (prohibition of work of Children, who are under the age of fourteen years, excluding work in such grazing and agricultural business as may not be dangerous, or harmful to health); (v) participation in military actions; (vi) exploitation in prostitution and pornographic materials; (vii) disability; (viii) competent justice and judicial organs (arrest and detention, remand homes, instruction homes, and youth homes, Child Court); and (ix) report of violation of the right of care, including the establishment, under this Act, of a hot telephone line, or any other means of communication, to receive information’s, suits and complaints of any violation to any of the Child rights.
