Abstract
This Act consisting of 14 articles and 2 Tables aims at providing for procedures to be followed in case of appearance of epizootic diseases in animals. They are (i) keep the animals affected, or suspected to be affected secluded, from other animals; (ii) notify immediately the nearest veterinary point; (iii) prevent the slaughter or skinning of animals affected; (iv) prevent the transfer of carcasses, litter and dung without approval; (v) prevent movement of the animals from any place without approval; and (vi) burn the carcasses, litter and dung of animals affected. The Act deal also with (a) duty of local authorities (mainly to inform the competent authority); (b) duty of the competent authority (check the nature of the disease); (c) procedures for declaration of infected area; (d) procedures in the infected area (permits to transfer the animal, or part of it, outside the area, declaration of a secluded area, or areas, displacement of the animal from water sources and pastoral areas, warn owners of sound animals); (e) treatment of affected animals; and (f) ban of trading and circulation affected animals. The 2 Tables list the epizootic diseases concerning the present Act.
