Abstract
This Act consisting of 17 articles aims at providing rules for veterinary inspection of food animals belonging to the following species (i) livestock; (ii) swine; (iii) poultry; and (iv) fish. Responsible body is the Ministry of Animal Resources (MOAR).
The Act establishes that (i) food animals can be slaughtered in the abattoirs or any other place permitted by the competent authority; (ii) before slaughtering, food animal have to be prepared, hygienically inspected and stamped by the Government stamp inside the abattoir; (iii) it is prohibited transport and sale of meat of food animals before conducting veterinary inspection; (iv) containers and means used in transportation or preservation of meat shall satisfy the sanitary condition; (v) a health certificate - renewed every six months - is necessary to work at abattoir or butcheries; (vi) it is prohibited to conceal any sign in proof of any disease in any organ or apart of the slaughtered food animal; (vii)in case of emergency slaughter, the competent authority has to be informed immediately to ascertain the validity of the accompanying health certificate; and (viii) the competent authority supervises over meat destruction and disposal operations and has the competence to lay down the design of stamps and exercise their use throughout the Sudan.
