Abstract
This Act consisting of 29 articles divided in VI Chapters aims at establishing in Khartoum the veterinary Council with the following main tasks (i) organize, regulate, supervise, promote and control the veterinary profession; (ii) set standards for the recognition of the qualifications for veterinarians; (iii) set regulations that define duties and obligations of veterinarians; (iv) specify qualifications for enrollment in its registers; and (v) implement the code of ethics and investigate contraventions committed against the professional or public conduct when incompatible with the professional conduct, and take the appropriate measures. The Council functions through its standing committees (a) complaints and professional Committee; (b) education Committee; and (c) finance Committee. It may constitute ad hoc committees for particular purposes.
Entering in registers (permanent register, preliminary register and temporary register) gives the following (i) practice the profession in veterinary fields; register graduates of animal production and fisheries; (iii) practice the veterinary profession for recently graduated veterinarian under supervision of a registered veterinarian; and (iv) qualify an alien veterinarian to practice the profession. in fact, no person shall be appointed in a job of veterinary, animal production graduate, animal production technician or veterinary science technician, in the public or private sector, unless he is registered in the Council’s registers.
The VI Chapters are entitled as follows Preliminary Provisions (I); The Council (II); The General Secretary, Registrar and his Deputy (III); Financial Provisions (IV); Complaints, Contraventions and Penalties (V); and Final Provisions (VI).
