Abstract
The present Act establishes the Swedish Institute for Human Rights. The Institute shall promote the safeguarding of human rights in Sweden, based on: 1. the form of government, the Freedom of the Press Ordinance and the Basic Law on Freedom of Expression; 2. the European Convention on Human Rights; 3. the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union; and 4. other binding obligations on Sweden under international law in the field of human rights. The Act specifies specific tasks to be carried out by the Institution, as well as its functioning.

Entry into force notes
This Act enters into force on 1 October 2021 in respect of sections 5, 7 and 8. All other sections enter into force on 1 January 2022.
