Abstract
The present Action plan for business and human rights implements the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGP) and aims to support Swedish businesses in transforming the UN Guiding Principles into concrete action. The Action Plan provides an overview of the three- pillar structure of the UNGP in the Swedish context and concludes with measures taken and planned.
The aim of planned measures is to raise Sweden's ambitions in foreign trade, including in Corporate Social Responsibility and implementation of the UNGPs, through a number of concrete measures to be implemented by 2017. Among other measures, the Government has launched an inquiry to examine whether the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child should be incorporated into Swedish law; companies are will be required to publish annual reports on payments made to authorities in the countries in which they operate to combat corruption; public procurement measures; enhancing knowledge about corporate social responsibility and the UNGP in embassies through training initiatives; conducting special due diligence in sectors facing distinct challenges; work to ensure that the EU includes references to corporate social responsibility and the UNGP; integrating sustainability issues into trade policy and export promotion; etc.
