Abstract
The present Decree of the Ministry of the Environment seeks to reduce waste production and to promote a circular economy. Disposable products are defined as non-recycled products, and plastic disposable products as those consisting wholly or partially of plastic. The Decree contains 34 sections divided in the following headings: (i) Content; (2) Additional provisions in other regulations; (3) Definitions; (4) Prohibition to place certain disposable plastic products on the Swedish market; (5) Prohibition on the use of confetti; (6) Obligation to offer servings in reusable packaging; (7) Target for reduced consumption; (8) Labeling and other information to consumers; (9) Monitoring decreased consumption; (10) Reporting; (11) Supervision; (12) Sanctions; and (13) Authorization to issue enforcement regulations. The Decree establishes a target of reducing the use of disposable mugs and food packaging made of plastic by 50 percent in 2026 in comparison to 2022.
