Expropriation Act (1972:719).

The present Act lays down rules concerning expropriation of land. The Act contains the following chapters: 1. Introductory provisions; 2. Expropriation purposes; 3. Expropriation permit, etc.; 4. Expropriation compensation; 5. Expropriation procedure; 6. Payment of compensation and completion of expropriation, etc.; 7. Special provisions.
Expropriation may take place, among other things, to give a municipality the opportunity to dispose of land or other space that, with regard to future development, is required for densely populated areas or related devices; to prepare space for a facility that meets the general need for traffic, transport or other communication; to meet the general need for electric power or other driving force, water, heat or similar utility or for the removal or neutralization of wastewater or other impurities; to satisfy the general fisheries management or for scientific investigations and experiments in connection with fishing; to put or keep property in a satisfactory condition, when gross negligence exists or may be feared to arise; to preserve an area such as a national park, nature reserve or natural monument or to otherwise meet a significant need for land or facilities for sports or outdoor life, if the land or facility is intended to be kept accessible to the public; etc. Procedural aspects of the expropriation process are described. Compensation corresponding to the property's market value shall be paid, unless otherwise stipulated in the present Act.
