Abstract
The present Act applies to wildlife management, the right to hunt, and hunting within Swedish territory etc. The Act contains 54 sections divided into the following chapters: Introductory provisions; Wildlife management; Hunting right holders; Transfer of hunting rights; Granting of hunting rights in certain cases; The right to hunt certain animals; Bird ringing; Game that belongs to the state; Obligation to notify; The authority of the police in certain cases; Hunting; Game breeding; The Wildlife Conservation Board; Knowledge testing etc.; Fees; Hunting supervisors; Supervision; Proceedings in courts; Responsibility; Authorizations; Appeals; Transitional provisions. The property owner shall have hunting rights on the land belonging to his or her property, unless otherwise provided by this Act.
Wildlife shall be managed so as to: i) conserve the game species that belong to the country's game population and the bird species that occur naturally in the country; and ii) promote the appropriate development of game stocks in the public and private interests. In order to protect endangered, rare or particularly valuable animal species and to ensure science and education of such species, the Government may prescribe that game that is seized, found dead or killed, shall belong to the state.
Hunting shall be conducted so that the game is not exposed to unnecessary suffering and so that people and property are not exposed to danger. If game has been hurt during hunting, the hunter shall take the necessary measures to track and kill the animal as soon as possible. Only the hunting gear prescribed by the government may be used. In order to promote wildlife management, the Government may issue regulations on the obligation of the hunter to: 1) pay an annual fee; 2) pay a fee for certain species of game that are felled; and 3) pay a special fee for game that has been shot in contravention of what is stipulated in a license issued for hunting. These fees shall form a wildlife conservation fund.
