Swedish Law on Economic Associations (No. SFS 1987:667).

This Law, consisting of 16 Chapters, establishes the general principles applicable to economic associations and regulates their activity. Producer cooperatives play an important role in the Swedish food processing industry in certain sectors, e.g. cereals and dairy. Producer organizations are also economic associations.
The Law establishes the rules on establishment of economic associations, books and required documents, registration procedures, etc. An economic association shall be formed by at least three natural or legal persons. They should take the decision to form the association, adopt statutes, elect a board and elect one or more auditors. An economic association should register at the Swedish Companies Registration Office. The association is not considered formed if it is not registered. When the association is registered it will also have legal capacity. It means, among other thing, that the association can be a party before the court and that it has different rights and obligations. Members of a registered economic association are not personally liable for the association’s liabilities except the deposit.
