Sustainable Singapore Blueprint.

This Sustainable Singapore Blueprint is a policy document which outlines Singapore’s long-term vision and strategies for becoming a more liveable and sustainable Singapore by 2030 to support the diverse needs and growing aspirations of Singaporeans. Key targets include increasing the national recycling rate to 70%, reducing domestic water consumption to 140 litres per person per day, and ensuring that 80% of buildings achieve Green Mark certification. The city-state also aims to cap greenhouse gas emissions and enhance public transport usage to 75% of peak-hour trips. In terms of environmental sustainability, Singapore plans to expand green cover, improve air and water quality, and develop more eco-smart towns. Initiatives such as the ABC Waters Programme, the co-location of the Tuas Water Reclamation Plant and Integrated Waste Management Facility, and the SolarNova programme exemplify efforts to optimise resource use and reduce environmental impact. These targets are supported by integrated planning, dynamic governance, and community engagement.
The Blueprint builds on Singapore’s early environmental efforts, such as the Garden City campaign and river cleanup, and addresses emerging challenges like climate change, resource scarcity, and urban density. It promotes a “car-lite” society, zero-waste nation, and green economy through innovations in transport, waste management, and energy. Projects like Punggol Northshore and Jurong Lake Gardens showcase smart, sustainable urban design, while community initiatives such as the Rail Corridor and Community in Bloom foster civic participation. Internationally, Singapore shares its expertise through platforms like the World Cities Summit and partnerships like the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-city.
