Abstract
The Slovenian Action plan for gender equality of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food is a strategic document that demonstrates the Ministry's commitment to equal treatment, regardless of gender (this text also indicates that regular training in the areas of gender equality and covert discrimination shall be planned for ministry employees). This text recognizes that effective equality between women and men is one of the key components of every democratic society and means that women and men must be equally recognizable, not only legally, but also in practice, both in private and business life, have the same social power, be equally involved in in all areas of public and private life, to have equal opportunities to enjoy all rights and to develop personal potentials with which they contribute to social development and to have equal benefit from the results of social progress. The concept of equality is broader than the concept of equality, which refers to formal legal equality, since legal and formal rights do not in themselves lead to an improvement in the position of women and men in society, or to an equal position. The interests, needs and priorities of both women and men, as well as the diversity of different groups of women and men, must be taken into account in policy-making.
