Cultural Heritage Strategy 2020-2023.

The starting point of the Slovenian Cultural Heritage Strategy for the programmed period from the year 2020 until the year 2023 is the principle of integral preservation of heritage as the foundation of national identity, the cultural diversity of Slovenia (which is intertwined with exceptional landscape and biodiversity), the attractiveness of our country for the lives of our citizens, education, development, artistic creation, tourism and other economic activities. It is the foundation of modern creativity and recognition of Slovenia in the international community. The general goals of the strategy are to contribute to the quality of life and a more connected society with the help of heritage, to accelerate the sustainable development of Slovenia and to improve society's attitude towards our heritage. In accordance with international treaties, European recommendations and the Constitution of the Republic of Slovenia, the realization of these goals is ensured at the level of the country, regions and local communities. The principle of holistic conservation should be taken into account in sectoral policies, measures and activities related to heritage. The principle of integral preservation, as derived from international treaties, of which the Republic of Slovenia is a signatory, includes: − enforcement of the right to heritage is part of human rights; − preservation of heritage and its sustainable use promote human socio-cultural development and improve the quality of life; − heritage plays an important role in building a more connected, peaceful and democratic society; promotes sustainable development, promotes cultural diversity and modern creativity; - the implementation of this principle can be achieved through more coordinated cooperation between all public, institutional and private factors.
