Decree on the intervention conservation, sustainable use and development of plant genetic resources in agriculture from the Strategic Plan of the Common Agricultural Policy 2023-2027.

Abstract
This Decree governs the intervention conservation, sustainable use and development of plant genetic resources in agriculture from the strategic plan governing the common agricultural policy for the period 2023-2027. The intervention is intended to finance services for the implementation of activities that support the conservation and sustainable use of plant genetic resources for agriculture and food in situ and ex situ with the aim of contributing to halting and changing the trend of biodiversity loss.
The following activities are subject to intervention support: 1. establishment of in situ monitoring of plant genetic resources for herbs (wild plants and wild relatives of agricultural plants) and other selected types of plants that have potential value for agriculture and food, determined by public procurement; 2. establishment of monitoring of plant genetic resources in situ for berries (wild plants and wild relatives); 3. preparation of a model of permanent safe storage of plant genetic resources from the public service for the conservation and sustainable use of genetic resources for food and agriculture and preparation of a selection of the most endangered accessions for safe storage at an additional location in Slovenia or abroad and repatriation; 4. establishment of in situ conservation of plant genetic resources or gene banks for species-rich permanent meadows that are adapted to local soil and climatic conditions and for wild plants and wild relatives of agricultural plants and other selected types of plants that have potential value for agriculture and food; 5. continuation of the evaluation of plant genetic resources (accessions and local varieties) with an emphasis on the useful value of local varieties and accessions, selection of genetic material and other as specified; 6. conservation through use: preparation of a strategy and establishment of feeding and controlled management of plant genetic resources; 7. maintenance of local varieties.
